A more comfortable pregnancy

Congratulations! Here is how chiropractic care can support you through every trimester.

Right now you may be feeling a lot of joy, and maybe a little unease. Your body is about to go through many changes, and most of them are completely normal. The good news is that chiropractic care can ease many of the aches that come with them, like back and shoulder pain. Here are two more common pregnancy concerns it can help with.

When baby is breech

For much of your pregnancy, your baby may be in a breech position, bottom or feet first. Most babies turn on their own by the third trimester, but sometimes they don’t.

Dr. Larry Webster, founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, developed the Webster Technique for this situation. It helps restore balance in the pelvis and the ligaments around it, which gives your baby more room to move into the best position for birth.

A study reported in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics in 2002 found that 82 percent of breech babies turned when chiropractors used the Webster Technique, and suggested it may help most when started in the eighth month.

When things slow down

During pregnancy your body makes more progesterone, a hormone that relaxes smooth muscle. Your digestive tract is made of smooth muscle, so digestion can slow down. A gentle adjustment to your lower back can relieve pressure on the nerves that help control your intestines, so they can work the way they should.

Care you can feel good about

Chiropractors are trained to care for women throughout pregnancy. If you are expecting and curious about chiropractic care, I would love to talk with you about it.
